Eyes on the Wild on display!

Some of YOUR favorite images will be on display at the Coffman Art Galley at the University of Minnesota for the next few months as part of "Nature: A Fusion of Art and Science"!

In addition to collaborating with citizen scientists on projects like Eyes on the Wild, Cedar Creek has run an artist in residence program called Cedar Creek Reflections since 2011. After all, art and science are often inspired by similar motivations: a desire to explore the unexplored and to uncover the hidden patterns and relationships of everyday life. Cedar Creek provides a unique opportunity for artists to investigate the intersection of science, nature and humanity, and to share their perspectives with our community. The exhibit at the Coffman Gallery showcases some of those investigations as well as the research taking place onsite.

Photographer Frank Meuschke examines two subjects. The first is the scientific research at Cedar Creek. The second is subtler: the idea of landscape - what we can know about our relationship to the natural world via the medium of landscape. His work considers the visible and invisible, the science and the wilderness, the human interventions into natural environments.

Writer Brian Baumgart puts Cedar Creek’s research into a personal and social context. His poetry explores family, history, emotion and humanity. Brian’s poems are illustrated by himself and by Minnesota GreenCorps member Tillery Bailey, whose detailed line drawings provide a visual backdrop for many of Brian’s pieces.

Finally, the exhibit showcases more than 50 of our favorite images from Eyes on the Wild trail cameras. You'll recognize some of our contest winners and runners-up, some fabulous behavior shots and entertaining selfies, and even a few images of our interns. We appreciate you tagging so many wonderful photos and putting Caitlin in the challenging position of curating the hundreds of thousands of potential images for inclusion!

The exhibition runs from November 7th until January 26th in the Coffman First Floor Gallery (in the Coffman Memorial Union, 300 Washington Ave SE, Minneapolis, MN 55455). The opening reception is November 8th from 6pm - 8pm: a live raptor will be at the reception so be sure to mark your calendar for this exciting event! Details about the reception as well as the show in general are here.
