New season - highlights so far!

Great work, everyone! With the help of our growing volunteer corps (we just passed 8000 citizen scientists - wow!), we wrapped up our 6th season of classifications and launched season 7 (filtered pictures now in Biodiversity Detective) and season 8 (brand new pictures now in Animal or Not). With your help, we've collectively submitted 5.4 million classifications since the project launched in December 2018! That has helped us confidently retire 752,487 subject sets - approximately 1.2 million individual photos. Absolutely incredible! We are beginning work on substantial data analysis and are looking forward to sharing some of the results of your work soon! Seasons 7 and 8 are only a day old, and they are already revealing some truly awesome shots.

Below are a few of our favorites from the new image bank thus far!

Miss_Marmite found this awesome shot of a coyote bringing a rabbit home.

Jolanda49 spotted this deer trying its best to get on camera in a low-lying marsh.

I (Caitlin) was surprised and thrilled to come across this nicely-posed fisher!
Thank goodness for the deep March snow.

Seems like the yearling deer might be impressed by this tom turkey's display in this neat multi-species picture found by Jolanda49.

SEPGator found this pair of foxes in the snow during mating season.

Even with a global pandemic, some essential work must go on - including the annual prescribed burn in our biodiversity research experiment!

Two large canids go for a stroll in this awesome shot highlighted by Jolanda49.

Jolanda49 also found this sweet image of a doe and her fawn.

zug_zug came across this deer relaxing after the pandemic had shut down the normally-busy spring field season at Cedar Creek.

Jolanda49 highlighted this incredible capture of a red-tailed hawk landing on a cut log on one of the major internal roads.

SEL2020 reminded us of the majesty of winter with this February shot of a small deer herd.

We can't wait to see what else you find - and what we can learn from all your hard work! Thanks for your continued efforts on our project. We hope that the new season of images can be a good "nature break" from the chaos of 2020!
